Dunhuang is situated in a rich oasis, which is also the major stop in the famous ancient Silk Road. Large Buddhist caves were built in the area, known as the Dunhuang Caves. Thousands of tourists visit Dunhuang Caves each year for its high artistic value. Most of the Dunhuang caves are constructed thousands years ago, and one of the caves is recognized as the World Heritage by UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Can you imagine numerous gigantic Buddhist sculptures sitting in the middle of the desert? Isn’t it both romantic and respectful?
